Topic for today: What makes work meaningful?
In today's world, work plays an important role in our lives and we can not do with out it, from being the economoic driver of most economies to being the ultimate survival tool kit for all humanity, whether rich or poor at some point we all need to work.
There are a lot of factors contributing to working meaninfuly or not been satisfied with ones work. Our motives and desires shape our thoughts in the long run hence affecting our desire to work. In order to survive and make ends meet, we need to work regardless of how we feel about work. in this article we can actually discover that work can have different impact on people, it can either be meaningful to others or unmeaningful and dissatisfactory to others. We are mainly going to look at the points making work meaningful, the following four points high light the importance of meaningful work.
Interactional work, when work is interactional it becomes more easy to carry out and makes it even meaningful because people are able to communicate well with each other, building strong bonds and building a good culture among them. Employees will feel that work is more meaningful if they can interact with each other in a place of work.
Tasks, work is more meaningful if employees have tasks to follow and perform, it gives people more time to think and calculate carefully what needs to be done. tasks will also motivate employees, deadlines push employees to work harder, to think of the next task, to plan ahead and lastly it makes work meaningful because it will be enjoyed but not too much of it again.
oragnizational, if work is highly organised most people will find it meaningful to work and enjoy it because its already planned out and straight forward no hinderances to work. once people know what's required of them its easy to carry out the work unlike when people are guessing and trying to undertsand how to operate the work. Second guessing leads to misundertsanding and confusion, but when the work is well organised and everyone knows and undertsands their role its much easier to work and makes work meaningful.
lastly, highly motivational, work should be motivating,its small or not, one must be motivated to work. work can be motivating if the management challenges the workers, gives awards, incentives or even gives encouragemnet to those under performing or working well. emsurimg workiomg comditions are met and well organised, clean and good sanitation available to workers.
